Established in 1996, the Global Group of companies brings together experts in the fields of construction, engineering, logistics and manufacturing. Our primary focus is on infrastructure development across Africa drawing on the unique skill sets of the individual companies within the Group. We design and develop rail freight solutions, manage rail and port logistics, provide innovative road construction methods and supply some of the world’s leading construction equipment into Africa.

Did you know that South Africa currently holds the record for the longest and heaviest freight train
in the world?

It measures over 4km in length consisting of 342 wagons powered by 10 locomotives with each wagon capable of transporting goods of up to 100 tons. The train starts at Sishen in the Northern Cape and travels over 860 kilometres to its final destination of Saldanha Bay on the Atlantic coast of the Western Cape. This is made possible through the use of the Scheffel Self-Steering Bogie, a unique patented design developed by Global Railway Engineering, which makes it possible to operate some of the longest production trains in the world.
